CHILDRENS TOY PROJECT
THE BRIEF
The project requires you to use your creativity to design and create a simple, polymer-based toy for a 5-6-year-old child with mechanical (not electronic) movement or action.
FINDINGS
COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES 5-6 YEAR OLDS
Develop empathy and awareness of behaviour's impact.
Expand vocabulary and sentence structure.
Understand space, time, and directions.
Build self-confidence and mastery in learning.
Key stage for reading, writing, and reasoning.
Perform basic math (addition/subtraction).
Distinguish fantasy from reality.
Improve memory, attention, and impulse control.
DESIGN SPECIFICATION
Aesthetics - Research shows children respond best to blue, pink, yellow, and green. I should prioritise these colours in my product design.
Materials - The material should be polymer-based, as per the brief. HDPE or LDPE are ideal due to their flexibility, toughness, and resistance to corrosion and weather.
Function - The product should entertain 5-6 year olds with a kinetic function, follow colour theory, and meet safety standards.

FINAL RENDERS
The final design, a series of removable and replaceable construction toppers that sit on top of a set of tracks. Children are able to chop and change the style of their toy depending on the world they’re trying to build, the first three toppers being a pickup truck, a crane and a bulldozer, all with a mechanical function.
